Hey everyone! I know I disappeared for a bit—rainy season started much earlier than usual in this part of the world, and so the sudden change in the weather led to me getting sick for about a week or so. This is why I haven't been able to post anything (other than updates on IG and Twitter). I've been feeling much better these days, so I'm trying my best to catch up on backlog!
Today I'll be introducing a new makeup brand on the blog – W7 Cosmetics! W7 Cosmetics isn't actually a new brand per se. This UK drugstore brand has been around since 2002, but I only found out about them sometime last year, while searching for dupes of the Naked 3 (back when I still really wanted one). One of their eyeshadow palettes came up during the search, and so I've had W7 in my "brands to check out in the future" list ever since. A few days ago, I was sent three W7 products by the lovely Chariss of The Makeup House, and so I finally got the chance to try the brand ♥
The products I was sent are: W7 The Queen of Brows Majestic Brow Mascara in Medium Deep *, W7 Kabrow! Brow Thickener in Brunette *, and W7 Making Waves Eye Colour Palette in Entourage *. I'll be sharing my thoughts on each one.
W7 The Queen of Brows Majestic Brow Mascara in Medium Deep *
I always felt that my eyebrow routine was missing an eyebrow mascara (or browcara for short), so I've been on the lookout for a good one. Sadly though, even though we have a plethora of browcara products in the local market, not one of them matched my dark hair color. Because most browcaras are usually marketed towards people with colored hair, there are only ever blonde, brown, and red colors. The few ash brown or grey-brown choices we have are usually not grey enough.
The Queen of Brows in Medium Deep is just the right color for me. It's grey-brown, but the shade matches my dark hair well. Another thing that I liked is that the wand has a small brush head, which makes application easy. The formula dries quickly, doesn't clump, and has great lasting power. Not bad for P250! On a good skin day, I can go out with just powder, lip tint, and this.
W7 Kabrow! Brow Thickener in Brunette *
The Kabrow! Brow Thickener is essentially a brow powder in a bottle. The concept and feel of the product is similar to the lip powder that I reviewed a while back, only this one is for your brows. The formula is matte, quite pigmented, long-lasting, and possibly even water and sweat proof. I wore this outside on a hot and humid 32°C day, and it didn't budge at all. But while I like the idea behind this, because it's a powder, there's a tendency for it to get quite messy. I tried applying the product directly from the small felt tip wand, and I immediately got fallout on my cheeks. Since the tip of the wand is round, it's hard to create a clean brow shape. I found that the best way to use this is by applying some on the back of your hand, and using a separate brow brush to apply on your brows. This also helps to make sure that you don't over-apply, as it is very pigmented and can look quite harsh.
All in all, it's a good product for its price. For P250, you get nice, full-looking brows that stay put until the end of the day. My only gripe is that even though Brunette is already the darkest color, it still appears too brown for me. Because I dye my hair jet black, I prefer my brow products to be grey or black. Hopefully W7 comes out with more colors for this product in the future!
W7 Making Waves Eye Colour Palette in Entourage *
This particular product was handpicked by Chariss for me to try. I asked her to pick one for me because I couldn't choose from the many products in her shop. Although I chose the previous products myself, I ended up being most excited to try this one. The W7 Making Waves Eye Colour Palette consists of five eyeshadow colors. After a bit of searching, I found out that this line was created to be a dupe of the Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette. I can't compare the two as I haven't tried the Hourglass one.
The colorway that I got is called "Entourage", and consists of five matte neutral shades—an off-white color, a light brown color with hints of pink, a neutral chocolate brown color, a light caramel brown color, and a dark espresso color.
I think the selection of colors is great for daily wear. Colors are office-friendly as well. Formula-wise, they're very pigmented, but can be a bit chalky. Best way to avoid fallout is by tapping off excess product from the brush before application. Other than that, I think it's a solid, basic palette. I prefer shimmer shadows myself, but it's always good to have at least one matte neutral palette on hand. For makeup beginners that want to try their hand at matte shadows, this is a good start. It's a steal at just P350, too!
Eye makeup done using The Queen of Brows + Kabrow! Brow Thickener + Making Waves Eye Colour Palette
Not bad for first impressions! For my first time using W7 Cosmetics, it wasn't bad at all. I liked all three products (though I liked some more than others). I love it whenever I find drugstore brands that really deliver, and W7 is one of them. Really thankful to Chariss of The Makeup House for sending me these and introducing me to this brand. I'm definitely going to be looking into W7 products a little more having tried these. (Naked 3 dupe, I'm looking at you!)
For my readers in the Philippines, you can get these and more from The Makeup House. If you order via their Instagram, mention my code P50CHAITMH615 to get a discount. The code is only valid until August 31st, so use it while you can! :)
