One of the things that I love about K-beauty is that Korea is always ahead of everyone else in terms of innovation. From cushions to peel-off makeup, there's always a new trend that comes along and gets everyone excited. One such trend is lip powder, a.k.a. powder lipstick. I found out about the lip powder hype about a year and a half ago, and I'd been wanting to try it ever since. And just my luck, because the kind people over at BB Cosmetic sent me the RiRe Lip Powder Tint in 03 Sugar Rose* to try for myself! You've probably seen this product everywhere already, but I thought I'd share with you my thoughts about it anyway! :)

RIRE LIP POWDER TINT IN 03 SUGAR ROSE
What is it? According to RiRe, it's a ~*~revolutionary~*~ lip product that promises the bold colors of lipstick, the smooth glide of lip gloss, the persistence of lip tint, and the moisturizing ability of lip balm. It's a powder emulsion lip tint that provides vivid color without the dry or sticky feeling of most liquid lipsticks.PACKAGING
The packaging for the Lip Powder Tint is the same as the packaging for RiRe's Lip Manicure, which was released a couple years before the powder version. It comes in a small clear plastic bottle with a black cap. It looks similar to a bottle of nail polish and is just about the same size. When you twist the cap open, you'll see a tiny applicator attached to it.While the idea of the nail polish bottle is cute, the design itself isn't ideal. The makeup pouch I keep in my bag is small so I can't bring this with me when I go out. Also, the cap is quite bulky and the applicator is really short, so applying the product can be difficult because the cap covers your lips ;____; Whenever I use this I have to put my mirror at an angle where I can see my lips properly. It would have been better if you could detach the cap from the applicator itself.
COLOR & TEXTURE
The RiRe Lip Powder Tint comes in 4 colors – 01 Orange Pop, 02 Hot Plum, 03 Sugar Rose, and 04 Fashion Red. The one I have is Sugar Rose, which is described as a "very recommendable daily color, similar to NARS Dolce Vita". (The brand and color name actually had asterisks in it, but it was easy to figure it out anyway lol.) From the swatches on the site, it seemed like a nice rose color, but I was surprised to see that the color looks a lot brighter in real life, as you can see in the swatches above. It's highly pigmented, but it doesn't go on super opaque (which may be a good or bad thing, depending on the person using it). If you have dark lips like me, the best way to use this product is to apply it after concealing your lips with a bit of foundation.Rather than the color, I was the most curious about the texture of these tints. If you look at it closely, the texture really is powder. Upon application, it instantly becomes creamy. It is feather-light on the lips, unlike most liquid lipsticks. It doesn't dry completely matte, but it isn't very moisturizing either. In fact, if you have chapped lips, this will accentuate them even more by getting into the cracks of your lips, so make sure you exfoliate and moisturize your lips beforehand.
LASTING POWER
Compared to my other lip tints, this product has average lasting power. It isn't smudge-proof or transfer-proof, and comes off easily with makeup remover (which, again, may be a good or bad thing, depending on the person using it). The color itself doesn't fade on its own, but does so when you eat or drink. When it does start to fade, it doesn't do so unevenly. It leaves behind a nice even tint, which I think is good. For daily use, I think the lasting power is okay. Not my first choice for events though.FINAL THOUGHTS
I think this is such an interesting concept for a lip product, but the hassle involved with using it can be quite off-putting especially for lazy girls like me. The formula and lasting power, I can live with, but the packaging is such a pain to use. I wish they'd do a re-design of the bottle in the future. Sugar Rose is such a pretty color though, so it would be a waste not to use it!
